Some of us think it is more than luck that Sweet Smokey is still with us today. Given the death defying events he has been through some of us have come to think that a few angels may have had roles to play in his story. Smokey barely survived not only a two dog attack in which one of his legs was brutally damaged, but he also survived a life threatening car accident while enroute to the Haida Gwaii Animal Hospital. The volunteer driver was able to crawl out of the upside down wreckage only to find that Smokey's carrier had cracked open and he had gotten out through one of the shattered windows. A number of people came out to search the bush for him and a live trap was set, but at the end of the day no Smokey. Another animal rescuer who happened to be in the area the next day was searching, when a young bike-riding girl stopped and decided to help look. Moments later she called out, she had found Smokey. No question - angels at work.
Smokey had surgery to amputate his leg on June 20th. His stitches will be removed on July 4th and he'll be ready to start his new life. He's already figured out how to balance on 3 legs and he'll get around just fine, thank you. But he'll be at a disadvantage if he needs to protect himself or avoid dogs so it's an inside life for Smokey. He's very affectionate and shows his gratitude with lots of purring and rolling about. So if you have a quietish home you'd like to share with a loving companion, give us a call or an email.
